Hardscape & Water Feature Contractor in Fountain Hills, AZ

Fountain Hills sits at an elevation of 1,520 feet at its center and rises to over 3,000 feet on its western border along the McDowell Mountains, making it noticeably cooler than the Phoenix valley floor in summer. The town is surrounded on all sides by open desert terrain, including McDowell Mountain Regional Park to the north and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community to the south, which limits expansion and keeps the community low-density. Homes here are built on terrain shaped by elevation changes, desert washes, and rocky hillside lots, and the architecture leans toward designs that frame outdoor views rather than block them. Pool decks and outdoor living spaces need to account for the town's higher elevation, where temperature swings between day and night are more pronounced than in the lower valley.

Hillside Terrain and Desert Views Drive Fountain Hills Outdoor Design

Fountain Hills lots in communities like FireRock and Eagle Mountain often have grade changes, rocky outcroppings, and desert wash buffers that make standard flat-lot hardscape layouts impractical. We design waterfalls and water features that use the existing slope rather than fighting it. A hillside lot in Fountain Hills is one of the better settings for a natural-looking rock waterfall because the elevation difference is already there.

Homes built in Fountain Hills during the 1990s and early 2000s have pool decks that have cycled through many years of temperature swings. At Fountain Hills' elevation, nights cool significantly even in summer, and that daily expansion and contraction accelerates cracking and surface wear on concrete decks. Pool decking repair and staining address this wear without requiring a full slab replacement in most cases.

Pavers and travertine work particularly well in Fountain Hills because the natural stone tones complement the McDowell Mountain backdrop and the desert wash vegetation common on many lots. We select materials and finishes that fit the outdoor character of the town rather than materials that look like they belong in a flat suburban subdivision. Chad Masters approaches each Fountain Hills project with the site's specific terrain and views in mind.

Every service, available in Fountain Hills, AZ

Waterfalls and water features are a strong fit for Fountain Hills properties because the town's hillside terrain and elevation changes provide natural grade for water to flow. Pool decking repair and staining are relevant here because many homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s have concrete decks that have weathered through years of temperature swings between hot days and cooler nights at elevation. Pavers and travertine are popular choices for outdoor surfaces in Fountain Hills because they complement the natural desert stone aesthetic that defines the town's character. Backyard hardscape and design work ties together the pool, water feature, and outdoor living areas on lots that often have irregular shapes due to the terrain.

We couldn’t be happier with the experience we had with Elite Rock Masters! Chad and his father did an outstanding job restoring our damaged grotto and courtyard fountain—it truly looks better than ever. From start to finish, the communication was exceptional. Chad took the time to walk us through every step of the restoration process, which made us feel informed, involved, and confident in the work being done. Before hiring, we carefully reviewed their past feedback, and choosing Elite Rock Masters turned out to be an excellent decision. Their craftsmanship, professionalism, and attention to detail really set them apart. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality work and a team you can trust!

We were looking to make some changes to the backyard that included concrete demo, new concrete, artificial turf and irrigation work. I could not find a company that could do it all and didn't want to coordinate several companies with overlapping work. Was referred to Chad with Elite Rock Masters and he checked out the work and said no problem, even offered to restore our old fountain and recommended a cool concrete coating. We agreed to both and the end result is great. Very happy with the outcome and there was no hesitation for minor asks during the install such as putting our baby's hand prints in the new concrete. Great work and would recommend Elite Rock Master's.

I can highly recommend Elite Rock Masters for their concrete/rock/waterfall work! We needed a 22 year old waterfall repaired that was leaking. I obtained 3 bids from 3 different pool companies around the Surprise, AZ area. Elite Rock Masters was the only company that did not tell me they would need to refinish the entire pool in order to fix the waterfall - as the waterfall does sit down into the pool a bit below the waterline. Chad came out, took a look at our waterfall and said "sure we can fix you up without redoing the entire pool". They worked with us (around our schedule) and did exactly what they said they would do. (Tough to find companies like that anymore.) They resurfaced our waterfall which fixed the leaks. They also textured, sculptured, and painted it to look like REAL rock to actually match some other large rocks we have in the backyard. Their attention to detail was incredible and demonstrated their years of experience as well as their true artistic skills. It now looks like huge boulders you would find in the mountains with water running over them that match our other rocks. They did an awesome job! THEN after we refilled the pool and started the waterfall back up, some of the water flow was not exactly like we wanted it (no fault of Elite Rock Masters just poor original plumbing install), Chad came back out (a couple of weeks later when he was back in the West Valley on another job) and fixed the waterflow in about 30 minutes. We could not be happier! Truly a joy to work with Chad and his company!

Recently I had Chad from Elite Rock Masters refinish my artificial rock waterfall and slide. For a 20 year old pool the water features were in reasonably good condition. My mistake was trying to DIY the resurfacing myself, please do not do it yourself. Save time and money and call Elite Rock Masters and you will be glad you did. In the fall I will have Elite redo the 20 year old pebble tech! I highly recommend them!

True artisans! Elite Rock Masters transformed my 11-year old backyard pool boulder waterfalls into vibrant new water features. My pool has never looked better. The team at Elite Rock Masters were outstanding to work with they collaborated with me to establish a schedule that orchestrated the multiple activities (e.g., pool drain, boulder refurbishment, tile warranty repair, tile cleaning, pool refill) that needed to occur and then they were always on time with their portions of the project. They shared their insights and expertise throughout the process. This team takes GREAT pride in their work the results show it! I strongly recommend them to any homeowner that wants to create a pool/backyard resort-style oasis!

Hardscape & Water Feature Contractor FAQ for Fountain Hills, AZ

Common questions from Fountain Hills, AZ customers about our services, process, and coverage.

Yes. The greater day-to-night temperature swing at Fountain Hills' elevation puts more stress on concrete pool decks than the valley floor experiences. This accelerates cracking and surface wear, which is why pool decking repair and staining are common needs for homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s here.

In most cases, yes. Rocky hillside lots in communities like FireRock and Eagle Mountain already have the grade and natural stone backdrop that make a waterfall look authentic. We design features that work with the existing terrain, which reduces site preparation and produces a more natural result.

Earth tones that complement the McDowell Mountain stone palette tend to work best in Fountain Hills. We select materials and finishes during the design phase based on the specific lot, the home's exterior, and the surrounding desert vegetation.

Yes. We work in gated communities throughout Fountain Hills. We coordinate access before the project begins so work can proceed without delays.

Yes. Artificial turf can be installed on moderately sloped lots with proper base preparation and drainage. It is a practical option in Fountain Hills where natural grass struggles with the combination of rocky soil, elevation, and intense summer sun.
