Hardscape & Water Feature Contractor in Sedona, AZ

Sedona sits within Coconino County at an elevation of roughly 4,350 feet, surrounded by Coconino National Forest and the iconic red sandstone formations that define the town's character. Neighborhoods include West Sedona, Uptown, the Village of Oak Creek, Oak Creek Canyon, and the Chapel area, each with distinct terrain and property types ranging from desert cottages to custom luxury estates. The red rock terrain and the town's Land Development Code, which governs building heights, setbacks, and even exterior paint reflectance, shape how outdoor spaces are designed and built. Outdoor water features in Sedona carry a different visual weight than in the Phoenix valley because the red rock backdrop makes natural and faux rock work look like it belongs to the landscape.

Red Rock Terrain Calls for Water Features Built to Match It

Sedona's red sandstone formations are the most recognizable landscape in Arizona, and outdoor water features here need to look like they belong in that setting. We build waterfalls and rock features using real and faux rock in tones and textures that complement the surrounding red rock rather than clashing with it. A water feature on a Sedona property that backs to Coconino National Forest should feel like a natural extension of the landscape, not a suburban pool accessory.

Sedona's elevation of roughly 4,350 feet means evenings cool significantly even in summer, and winter temperatures regularly drop below freezing. Outdoor fireplaces are a genuinely useful feature here, not just a visual element. We build outdoor fireplace structures that are sized and positioned to make a covered patio or outdoor living area comfortable through Sedona's cooler months.

New builds and remodels in Sedona often involve properties in the Village of Oak Creek, West Sedona, and the Chapel area, where lot sizes and terrain vary considerably. We approach each project by understanding the specific site conditions, the views the homeowner wants to preserve, and the design standards that apply to the property. Chad Masters brings a personal investment to each Sedona project, treating the red rock setting as the defining context for every design decision.

Every service, available in Sedona, AZ

Waterfalls and water features built with real and faux rock are among the most fitting projects in Sedona, where the red sandstone landscape provides a natural reference point for rock work that looks authentic rather than imported. New builds and remodels in Sedona often incorporate outdoor water features as a central design element, particularly on properties that back to Coconino National Forest or have views of Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte, or Cathedral Rock. Outdoor fireplaces are a practical addition in Sedona, where the higher elevation means cooler evenings year-round and winter temperatures that make a fire feature genuinely useful rather than decorative. Pool decking and travertine work in Sedona must account for the town's design standards, which favor materials and finishes that complement the red rock color palette.

We couldn’t be happier with the experience we had with Elite Rock Masters! Chad and his father did an outstanding job restoring our damaged grotto and courtyard fountain—it truly looks better than ever. From start to finish, the communication was exceptional. Chad took the time to walk us through every step of the restoration process, which made us feel informed, involved, and confident in the work being done. Before hiring, we carefully reviewed their past feedback, and choosing Elite Rock Masters turned out to be an excellent decision. Their craftsmanship, professionalism, and attention to detail really set them apart. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality work and a team you can trust!

We were looking to make some changes to the backyard that included concrete demo, new concrete, artificial turf and irrigation work. I could not find a company that could do it all and didn't want to coordinate several companies with overlapping work. Was referred to Chad with Elite Rock Masters and he checked out the work and said no problem, even offered to restore our old fountain and recommended a cool concrete coating. We agreed to both and the end result is great. Very happy with the outcome and there was no hesitation for minor asks during the install such as putting our baby's hand prints in the new concrete. Great work and would recommend Elite Rock Master's.

I can highly recommend Elite Rock Masters for their concrete/rock/waterfall work! We needed a 22 year old waterfall repaired that was leaking. I obtained 3 bids from 3 different pool companies around the Surprise, AZ area. Elite Rock Masters was the only company that did not tell me they would need to refinish the entire pool in order to fix the waterfall - as the waterfall does sit down into the pool a bit below the waterline. Chad came out, took a look at our waterfall and said "sure we can fix you up without redoing the entire pool". They worked with us (around our schedule) and did exactly what they said they would do. (Tough to find companies like that anymore.) They resurfaced our waterfall which fixed the leaks. They also textured, sculptured, and painted it to look like REAL rock to actually match some other large rocks we have in the backyard. Their attention to detail was incredible and demonstrated their years of experience as well as their true artistic skills. It now looks like huge boulders you would find in the mountains with water running over them that match our other rocks. They did an awesome job! THEN after we refilled the pool and started the waterfall back up, some of the water flow was not exactly like we wanted it (no fault of Elite Rock Masters just poor original plumbing install), Chad came back out (a couple of weeks later when he was back in the West Valley on another job) and fixed the waterflow in about 30 minutes. We could not be happier! Truly a joy to work with Chad and his company!

Recently I had Chad from Elite Rock Masters refinish my artificial rock waterfall and slide. For a 20 year old pool the water features were in reasonably good condition. My mistake was trying to DIY the resurfacing myself, please do not do it yourself. Save time and money and call Elite Rock Masters and you will be glad you did. In the fall I will have Elite redo the 20 year old pebble tech! I highly recommend them!

True artisans! Elite Rock Masters transformed my 11-year old backyard pool boulder waterfalls into vibrant new water features. My pool has never looked better. The team at Elite Rock Masters were outstanding to work with they collaborated with me to establish a schedule that orchestrated the multiple activities (e.g., pool drain, boulder refurbishment, tile warranty repair, tile cleaning, pool refill) that needed to occur and then they were always on time with their portions of the project. They shared their insights and expertise throughout the process. This team takes GREAT pride in their work the results show it! I strongly recommend them to any homeowner that wants to create a pool/backyard resort-style oasis!

Hardscape & Water Feature Contractor FAQ for Sedona, AZ

Common questions from Sedona, AZ customers about our services, process, and coverage.

Earth-tone faux or real rock in warm reds, tans, and browns complement Sedona's sandstone landscape better than gray or cool-toned materials. We select rock finishes during the design phase based on the specific property's surroundings and the views the homeowner wants to frame.

Yes. Sedona's elevation means winter temperatures can drop below freezing, which affects how water feature plumbing is designed and winterized. We account for freeze exposure in the plumbing layout and material selection so the feature holds up through Sedona's colder months.

Yes. Outdoor fireplaces can be added to existing covered patios in most cases. In Sedona, where evenings cool significantly even in summer, an outdoor fireplace extends the usable season of an outdoor living area considerably.

Sedona's Land Development Code governs exterior finishes and materials to preserve the town's visual character. Travertine and natural stone pavers in earth tones are generally well-aligned with these standards and complement the red rock color palette. We select materials that fit both the homeowner's preferences and the property's design context.

Yes. The Village of Oak Creek sits just south of Sedona along AZ-179 and shares the same red rock landscape. We work on properties throughout the greater Sedona area, including the Village of Oak Creek, West Sedona, Uptown, and Oak Creek Canyon.
